Job summary

GSL Education - Manchester is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Autism at a South Manchester primary school. You will collaborate with teachers and the SENCO to deliver structured support, implement visual timetables, and foster a sensory-friendly learning environment.

Key responsibilities include 1:1 and small group support, using de-escalation strategies, and assisting with communication tools like PECS or Makaton. A DBS check is required or willingness to apply.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6–12 months of direct experience working with autistic children or young adults in educational, care, or support settings.
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the DBS Update Service or willingness to obtain one immediately.
  • Practical understanding of sensory processing needs and positive behavior support.
  • Basic communication tools such as PECS, Makaton, or visual boards.

Location: South Manchester

Pay Rate: £100 £125 per day (depending on experience)

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

About the Role

A vibrant primary school in South Manchester is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Autism (ASC/ASD). Requirements & Qualifications

  • DBS Check: Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the DBS Update Service (or willingness to apply for a new one immediately).
  • Skills & Training: Practical understanding of sensory processing needs, positive behavior support, and basic communication tools (e.g., PECS, Makaton, or visual boards).
  • Qualities: Patience, adaptability, resilience, and a calm approach under pressure.
