Job summary

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a Special Needs School in Stockport. The role supports pupils aged 4–19 with SEN, including ASD and complex learning needs, across the school.

The successful candidate will assist in 1:1 and small group settings, provide personal care where needed, and work with a multi-disciplinary team to support development and behaviour management. Immediate start possible.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people.
• Experience working with SEN needs such as severe Autism, Complex Learning Needs and Sensory Impairments.
• Experienced providing personal care.
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach with the ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
• Confidence in setting boundaries and following behaviour management plans consistently.
• Flexibility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis, helping them engage in learning and regulate emotions.
• Provide personal care to pupils.
• Assist in managing challenging or high-risk behaviours using positive strategies.
• Build strong, professional relationships with pupils.
• Work with staff, SEN professionals, and external agencies to support development.

SEND Teaching Assistant

Location - Stockport (Manchester) (SK8)

Pay - GBP500-GBP550 per week, depending on experience

Start Date - ASAP

Contract Type - Long-Term, Temp to Perm

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant/Support Worker who is confident working with SEN pupils? Prospero Teaching is working with a Special Needs School in Stockport who are in need of Teaching Assistants across the school. This school supports pupils between 4 - 19 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils on 1:1 and small group basis, helping them to engage in learning and regulate emotions
• Need to be comfortable providing personal care to pupils
• Assist in managing challenging behaviour and sometimes high-risk behaviours, using positive behaviour strategies
• Build strong, professional relationships with pupils
• Work closely with other staff members, SEN professionals and external agencies to support development

Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people
• Experience working with SEN needs such as severe Autism, Complex Learning Needs and Sensory Impairments
• Experienced providing personal care
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach with the ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
• Confidence in setting boundaries and following behaviour management plans consistently.
• Flexibility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.
• Psychology, Speech and Language Graduates, Teaching Assistants, Care and Support Workers are ideal for this school

Eligibility

• Hold Right to Work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
• Provide two professional child related references that cover the last two years
