Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking committed SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils with special educational needs across Derby and surrounding areas. This flexible supply role offers day-to-day, short-term and temporary opportunities, allowing you to choose roles that fit your availability while gaining diverse classroom experience.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, adapt activities to individual needs, and work closely with teachers and SENCOs to promote inclusion and positive learning.

Key Responsibilities

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, your duties may include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
• Supporting children with a range of additional needs
• Encouraging positive engagement with learning
• Adapting activities to meet individual needs and abilities
• Supporting pupils social and emotional development
• Promoting independence, confidence, and positive behaviour
• Collaborating closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff
• Helping to maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment

Person Specification

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND
• Patient, caring, and resilient nature
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
• Strong communication skills
• Flexibility to adapt to various school environments
• Genuine passion for helping children achieve their full potential

Experience supporting needs such as Autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, learning challenges, or social and emotional needs is highly desirable.
