Job description

Are you an experienced SEND Teacher looking for a rewarding long-term opportunity?

A welcoming and inclusive Primary School in Smethwick is seeking a dedicated SEND Teacher to join their team full-time from October until the end of the academic year. This role will be based within the school's specialist resource base, supporting a small group of 9 pupils with a range of SEN and SEMH needs, including complex and high needs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality teaching tailored to the individual needs of pupils within the resource base.

The classroom is well supported, with Teaching Assistants and dedicated 1:1 support available, allowing the successful candidate to focus on delivering engaging, personalised learning. Previous experience working within an SEN setting is essential, and the school is looking for a confident, patient and experienced teacher who understands how to adapt teaching to meet a range of complex needs.

This is a full-class teacher role requiring planning, marking and attendance during staff and parents meetings.

As a SEND Teacher, your responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons within the school's specialist resource base.
  • Teaching a group of 9 pupils with a range of SEN and SEMH needs, including complex and high needs.
  • Adapting the curriculum, resources and teaching approaches to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Working closely with Teaching Assistants and 1:1 support staff within the resource base.
  • Developing positive and trusting relationships with pupils and creating a safe, nurturing learning environment.
  • Supporting pupils' academic, social, emotional and personal development.
  • Implementing individual support plans, EHCP targets and appropriate SEN strategies.
  • Monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress and adapting teaching accordingly.
  • Working collaboratively with the SENCO, class teachers, support staff and external professionals.
  • Managing behaviour effectively using appropriate SEN and SEMH strategies.
  • Promoting independence, confidence and engagement in learning.
  • Maintaining high expectations while recognising and responding to individual barriers to learning.
To be successful in this SEND Teacher role, you will need:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Previous experience teaching within an SEN/SEND setting is essential.
  • Experience supporting pupils with complex and/or high-level additional needs.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of SEND and how to adapt teaching to meet individual needs.
  • Experience working with EHCPs, individual support plans and personalised learning programmes.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm and consistent.
  • Confidence working alongside Teaching Assistants and 1:1 support staff.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A nurturing, patient and resilient approach to teaching.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils with a range of needs.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
  • A DBS on the update service, or issued within the last 12 months.
  • A minimum of two excellent references.
Working as a SEND Teacher for Flourish Education also offers you excellent benefits, including:
  • Competitive Salary – £33,930 - £46,800 per annum (pro rata, based on previous experience).
  • Holiday Pay – PAYE candidates accrue 12.07% of their day rate.
  • Pension Contributions.
  • Free, comprehensive safeguarding and Prevent Duty training, including modules on legislation, FGM, and abuse.
  • A refer-a-friend bonus scheme.
  • Ongoing support throughout the registration process and during your placement.
  • Regular contact from your dedicated Flourish Education consultant.

This SEND Teacher position is based in Smethwick and is easily commutable from surrounding areas including West Bromwich, Oldbury, Handsworth, Bearwood, Quinton and Birmingham.
