Job summary

Polaris Community's Ormston School in Leeds is seeking a Primary SEND Teacher to join a supportive team. You will educate primary pupils aged 5–11 in small class groups with a Teaching Assistant, planning and delivering lessons aligned to the National Curriculum and safeguarding guidelines.

The role offers term-time hours, a competitive salary (£28,000–£39,520) and a focus on pupil outcomes within a nurturing environment. DBS checks will be completed as part of the recruitment process.

Qualifications

  • QTS and successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching primary-age pupils.
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum.

  • Strong safeguarding awareness and child protection knowledge.

We are currently seeking a Primary SEND Teacher to join our team.

About the School

Located in Headingley, Leeds, Ormston School opened with its first cohort of learners in September 2024 and offers a safe and supportive environment for pupils aged 5–18.

Our aim is to provide a learning environment where young people can thrive, feel supported and safe, and leave school with positive experiences and meaningful outcomes that enable them to contribute to the wider community.

Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the primary curriculum to small, bespoke class groups of up to six pupils, with the support of a Teaching Assistant. You will be required to plan, prepare and deliver lessons that respond to the individual needs and abilities of pupils.

You will be required to:

  • Plan and teach well‑structured lessons to assigned classes, following the school’s plans, curriculum and schemes of work
  • Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment
  • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils
  • Set high standards that inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
  • Promote positive progress and outcomes for pupils
  • Demonstrate secure subject and curriculum knowledge
  • Be familiar with the National Curriculum at both primary and secondary level
  • Adapt learning to meet the needs of learners with SEND
Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Successful classroom teaching experience
  • Experience teaching primary-age pupils
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies
  • A good understanding of how children learn
  • The ability to adapt teaching to meet pupils’ needs
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with pupils
  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding practices and protocols
  • Knowledge of effective behaviour‑management strategies
  • Good ICT skills, particularly in using technology to support learning

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check, the cost of which will be met by Polaris Education.
