Job summary

Polaris Education – Ormston School in Headingley, Leeds, seeks a Primary SEND Teacher on a full-time, term-time-only basis. The role involves delivering the primary curriculum to small classes (up to six pupils) with a Teaching Assistant, planning engaging lessons, and assessing pupil progress.

The successful candidate will have QTS, a relevant degree, and experience with primary pupils, with a focus on SEND.

We are currently seeking a Primary SEND Teacher to join our team.

About the School

Located in Headingley, Leeds, Ormston School opened with its first cohort of learners in September 2024 and offers a safe and supportive environment for pupils aged 5-18.

Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the primary curriculum to small, bespoke class groups of up to six pupils, with the support of a Teaching Assistant. You will be required to plan, prepare and deliver lessons that respond to the individual needs and abilities of pupils.

You will be required to:

• Plan and teach well-structured lessons to assigned classes, following the school's plans, curriculum and schemes of work
• Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment
• Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils
• Set high standards that inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
• Promote positive progress and outcomes for pupils
• Demonstrate secure subject and curriculum knowledge
• Be familiar with the National Curriculum at both primary and secondary level
• Adapt learning to meet the needs of learners with SEND

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• A relevant degree
• Successful classroom teaching experience
• Experience teaching primary-age pupils
• Knowledge of the National Curriculum
• Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies
• A good understanding of how children learn
• The ability to adapt teaching to meet pupils' needs
• The ability to build effective working relationships with pupils
• Knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding practices and protocols
• Knowledge of effective behaviour-management strategies
• Good ICT skills, particularly in using technology to support learning
