Job summary

Polaris Community seeks a dedicated one-to-one Teaching Assistant for Ormston School in Leeds. This 12-month fixed-term, term-time role runs four days per week (Monday-Thursday) with an ASAP start.

You will support individual pupils, assist teachers, and help create a safe, nurturing environment that encourages growth. Located in Headingley, the school serves pupils 5–18 and forms part of Polaris Community.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at minimum grade C or equivalent.
• Experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar role.
• Experience with pupils who have SEMH needs.
• Willingness to take additional responsibility for school areas.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and support one pupil or a small group (up to six).
• Assist the classroom teacher during lessons.
• Report on pupils' progress and concerns to staff.
• Supervise pupils during non-classroom time and trips.
• Assist with lesson planning and preparation.
• Build positive relationships to promote learning.
• Adapt resources to meet the needs of young people.

We are currently seeking a one-to-one Teaching Assistant to join us within our secondary classes.

Role Responsibilities

• Mentor and support one pupil or a small group of no more than six pupils
• Support the classroom teacher during lessons
• Report on pupils' progress and concerns, liaising with other school staff to ensure pupils' needs are met
• Supervise pupils during non-classroom time, including extra-curricular activities and school trips
• Assist with lesson planning and classroom preparation
• Build positive relationships with pupils, encouraging interaction and positive learning outcomes
• Adapt resources to meet the needs of young people

Requirements

• A strong basic education, ideally to A level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, along with sound IT skills
• Previous experience in a similar role, such as a Teaching Assistant
• Previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
• Experience and confidence in taking additional responsibility for an area of school, such as food hygiene, Forest School, lunchtimes or school yoga
• Experience of behaviour-management strategies and techniquesA commitment to professional development and willingness to learn
