Make a difference every day

Are you passionate about helping pupils feel included, build confidence and achieve their potential? Join Ashton West End Primary Academy as a SEND Teaching Assistant and play an important part in a welcoming, diverse school community where every pupil is valued.

About our school

Ashton West End is a larger-than-average primary academy in Ashton-under-Lyne, with 434 pupils. Our community brings together many cultures, languages and experiences: almost 80% of our pupils speak English as an additional language, and we celebrate the richness this brings to school life.

Our vision is rooted in perseverance, inclusion and respect. We support one another, take pride in what we do and believe that everyone is welcome. We are committed to high-quality education, strong pastoral care and reducing barriers so that all pupils can thrive.

We have recently opened a 20-place Inclusion Unit across two classrooms to strengthen our support for pupils with speech, language and communication needs. Developing inclusive provision and helping every pupil access learning are important priorities for the academy.

About the role

You will work in the classroom supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, either on a one-to-one basis or in a group. Working with teachers and colleagues, you will help pupils access learning, participate in school life and develop their skills, confidence and independence.

You will support pupils to work towards the targets set out in their PCP or EHCP, adapting your approach to meet their individual needs. You will contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment where pupils feel safe, respected and encouraged to make progress.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution in a school that is continually developing its inclusive practice and support for pupils with additional needs.

About you

You will bring warmth, patience and a genuine belief in every pupil’s potential. You will be attentive to pupils’ individual needs, able to build positive relationships and committed to helping pupils feel safe, respected and included.

You will work constructively with colleagues and families, communicate with care and adapt your approach to help pupils engage and succeed. We welcome applications from people who share our values and are keen to contribute to a diverse school community.

What we offer

You will join a supportive team committed to professional learning and improving outcomes for pupils. Our priorities include developing staff knowledge of inclusive practice and strengthening provision for pupils with SEND, including communication and language needs.

Safeguarding is central to our work. All staff are expected to share our commitment to protecting pupils and promoting their safety and wellbeing.
