Aspire People | SEND Support Workers - Immediate Opportunities in Specialist Schools

Are you a Residential Support Worker, Youth Worker, Care Worker or Social Care professional looking for your next opportunity? Aspire People wants to hear from you!

Aspire People is actively recruiting SEND Support Workers to support schools and specialist education settings that need dedicated staff ASAP.

We welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in residential care, children's services, youth work, health and social care, learning disability support, autism support and other relevant care or support roles.

You do not need previous experience working in a school to apply. The skills you have developed in care and support roles are highly transferable to supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Who are we looking for?

We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in:

  • Residential care and children's residential care
  • Youth work and youth support
  • Health and social care
  • Care assistant and support worker roles
  • Autism and learning disability support
  • Mental health support
  • Behavioural support and supporting individuals with complex needs
  • Community support and outreach
  • Other relevant care, education or support-based roles

If you have experience supporting vulnerable individuals, promoting independence, managing challenging situations or building positive relationships, your skills could be an excellent fit for a specialist school environment.

Why are your skills transferable to an SEN school?

Working in care, social care or youth support develops many of the core skills needed to support learners with additional needs.

These include:

  • Relationship building: Developing trust and positive relationships with children and young people.
  • Understanding individual needs: Adapting your approach to meet different communication, emotional and learning needs.
  • Behavioural support: Using patience, empathy and appropriate strategies to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Communication: Supporting individuals who may have additional communication needs.
  • Promoting independence: Encouraging confidence, life skills and personal development.
  • Safeguarding: Understanding professional boundaries, confidentiality and the importance of keeping vulnerable individuals safe.
  • Resilience and adaptability: Remaining calm, consistent and supportive in challenging or unpredictable situations.

These skills are valuable across a range of settings, including SEN schools, specialist provisions, alternative education settings and other environments supporting children and young people with additional needs.

Your experience counts, and Aspire People can help you explore opportunities where your existing skills can make a difference.

What will the role involve?

As an SEND Support Worker, your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with autism, learning disabilities and other additional needs.
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Supporting communication, emotional regulation, social development and engagement in learning.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and participation in classroom activities.
  • Following individual support plans, behaviour strategies and safeguarding procedures.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers and other professionals.
  • Providing consistent, patient and compassionate support throughout the school day.

Responsibilities will vary depending on the school, the pupils' needs and the specific assignment.

Essential employment requirements

To be considered for these opportunities, you must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Hold an appropriate Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one. The required checks will depend on the role and setting.
  • Provide references covering your employment history for the previous two years, with any gaps explained as required.
  • Demonstrate a professional, reliable and flexible approach to supporting children and young people.
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils.

Previous experience in care, residential support, youth work, social care or a related support role is desirable. Additional training or role-specific checks may apply.

Why work in SEND education?

Working in specialist education gives you the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people.

You can build on the skills you already have, gain valuable experience in education, broaden your career opportunities and help learners develop confidence, independence and new skills.

If you are looking for a role where your experience is valued and your work has a genuine purpose, this could be the opportunity for you.
