Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEND Support Assistant to join a mainstream primary in Nuneaton from September. This full-time role offers an immediate start and involves 1:1 and small-group support to SEND pupils, aligned to the UK Primary curriculum.

You will work with the class teacher and SENCO, adapt activities for individual needs and deliver interventions in phonics, reading, writing, numeracy and communication.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Experience delivering 1:1 or alternative provision is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with UK Primary curriculum and SEN needs.

Responsibilities

SEND Support Assistant - Mainstream Primary - Nuneaton

Full Time, Immediate Start

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Support Assistant to join the team at one of our lovely Mainstream Primary schools from September. The school are seeking a passionate educator to bring UK Primary curriculum knowledge to support staff and students.

This is a full time opportunity and would be best suited to a Teaching Assistant with a Level 3 qualification or the equaivalent relevant experience.

The role would be a mixture of 1:1 work as well as small group intervention sessions. Previous experience working 1:1 or in an Alternative Provision would be beneficial but is not necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to support individual pupils' learning and development.
  • Support pupils to access the curriculum by adapting activities and providing appropriate levels of assistance.
  • Deliver or support targeted interventions, including phonics, reading, writing, numeracy and communication activities.
  • Support pupils with a range of needs, which may include Autism/ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties and additional learning needs.
  • Promote pupils' independence, confidence and self-esteem, encouraging them to participate fully in school life.
  • Provide support with emotional regulation and positive behaviour, using strategies agreed with the school.
  • Build trusting and positive relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Monitor pupil engagement and progress and provide regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Follow individual support plans, EHCP outcomes and school strategies where appropriate.
  • Support pupils during lessons, break times, lunchtimes and other school activities where required.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to school policies and safeguarding procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents/carers and external professionals where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy and resilience when supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Have previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within a primary school or SEN setting.
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting children with SEND to achieve their potential.
  • Adapt their approach according to each pupil's individual needs and communication style.
  • Remain calm and consistent when managing challenging behaviour or difficult situations.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be proactive and willing to take direction from teachers and the SENCO.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Be reliable, punctual and committed to providing consistent support.
  • Be willing to learn and develop their understanding of different SEND needs and support strategies.
  • Where required, be able to commute reliably to the school and maintain consistent attendance.
