Job summary

Academics is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEND in Colchester. You will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to provide tailored support, helping students overcome barriers to learning and build confidence.

The role involves one-to-one or small-group support, assisting with classroom activities, and following individual Education and support plans. Experience with autism, ADHD, SEMH or other SEND needs is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, young people or individuals with SEND is highly desirable.
  • Candidate should be enthusiastic, caring and committed to helping learners succeed.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, health and social care or SEND are beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils one-to-one or in small groups.
  • Assist students with class activities and learning tasks.
  • Support communication, social skills and emotional development.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive relationships.
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and preparation.
  • Provide appropriate support for SEND and additional needs.
  • Follow individual education and support plans.
  • Create a safe, inclusive and encouraging learning environment.
