Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistant for a full-time position in Colchester. You will support pupils with SEND to access education and reach their full potential, working closely with teachers and other education professionals.

This temporary-to-permanent role offers immediate start and opportunities to build strong relationships with pupils, while helping children with additional needs thrive in a specialist setting.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEND
• Experience in school, specialist provision, care, residential or youth-work setting
• Patient, resilient and calm in challenging situations
• Ability to build positive professional relationships with pupils
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Reliable for full-time, long-term position
• Genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and young people

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND
• Support pupils with needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH and learning difficulties
• Help pupils engage with lessons and classroom activities
• Support children's communication, social and emotional development
• Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour
• Provide additional support to pupils who may display challenging behaviour
• Follow individual education, behaviour and support plans
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other education professionals
• Help maintain a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment
• Support pupils throughout the school day, including break and lunchtime
