Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient SEND Science Tutor to work with students across Somerset in-person. You will deliver personalised Science tuition to learners who may have additional needs, adapting to pace and interests to build confidence and progress in Science.

Experience with SEND/SEMH and a good understanding of the secondary Science curriculum are essential. You will collaborate with parents and professionals while maintaining safeguarding standards.

Job description

SEND Science Tutor - Somerset

Location: Somerset

Phase: Secondary / SEND

Working arrangement: In-person

Quantum Scholars is looking for a supportive, patient and experienced SEND Science Tutor to work with children and young people across Somerset. This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role will involve providing personalised Science tuition to students who may have additional learning needs and benefit from a flexible, individualised approach to education. You will be expected to build positive and trusting relationships with students, adapt your teaching to meet their individual needs and help develop their confidence, engagement and progress in Science.

The successful tutor will be able to create engaging and accessible lessons while remaining flexible to each student's pace, interests and learning needs. Experience working with young people with SEND, SEMH needs or those who have found mainstream education challenging would be particularly beneficial.

The role may involve
  • Delivering one-to-one or small-group Science tuition
  • Supporting students with areas of the Science curriculum appropriate to their age and ability
  • Planning engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging learning activities
  • Adapting teaching approaches to suit different abilities, learning needs and levels of engagement
  • Helping students develop confidence and a positive attitude towards Science
  • Supporting students to develop independent learning and study skills
  • Helping students re-engage with education in a positive and meaningful way
  • Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback
  • Building positive, consistent and trusting relationships with students
  • Working collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals where required
  • Maintaining clear and professional communication
  • Following safeguarding procedures at all times
Essential requirements
  • Experience teaching or tutoring Science to children or young people
  • Experience working with students with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • A good understanding of the secondary Science curriculum
  • Experience delivering one-to-one or personalised educational support is desirable
  • The ability to plan and deliver engaging, personalised learning
  • Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, calm, flexible and supportive approach
  • The ability to adapt teaching to meet individual learning needs
  • A genuine commitment to supporting young people to achieve their potential
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check, where required
  • Satisfactory professional references
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
