Job summary

The Mercian Trust, at Q3 Academy Tipton in Tipton, England, seeks an enthusiastic Teacher of SEND and Primary Skills to build foundational reading, writing and numeracy across Key Stages 1 and 2. The role focuses on delivering phonics, early literacy, and targeted support for learners with SEND.

You will assess starting points, plan sequenced teaching, and collaborate with the SENCO and support staff to help students achieve ambitious progress and leave no learner behind.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of KS1 and KS2 curriculum progression in phonics, early literacy and numeracy.
• QT Status (QTS) and a good honours degree.
• Ability to assess starting points and plan sequenced teaching and targeted next steps.
• Experience in teaching SEND and inclusive practices.

Responsibilities

• deliver systematic and explicit teaching of phonics, early literacy and numeracy
• assess students' starting points and plan sequenced teaching with targeted interventions
• adapt teaching and resources to meet SEND, communication, language and literacy needs
• provide accessible and scaffolded learning while remaining age-appropriate and ambitious
• work with SENCO, teaching assistants, pastoral colleagues and specialists
• contribute to targets and EHC plan outcomes where appropriate
• utilize teaching assistants and resources to promote independence
• help students apply literacy and numeracy across the wider curriculum
