Job summary

Luma Education Recruitment is seeking a SEND Maths Tutor to join a small alternative provision in Solihull. You will deliver one-to-one maths sessions for pupils aged 11-16, supporting GCSE readiness where appropriate, and build confidence through patient, tailored teaching.

The role is full-time, onsite, with a temp-to-perm path. A specialist maths background and experience with SEND are preferred, and a dedicated consultant will support you throughout placement.

Qualifications

• A specialist background in Maths is preferred (QTS, QTLS, a relevant degree or strong tutoring experience).
• Real experience supporting young people with SEND.
• Compassionate, patient and empathetic; the right temperament matters as much as experience on paper.
• Calm, consistent and nurturing, with the flexibility to adapt each lesson to the pupil in front of you.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging one-to-one maths lessons tailored to each pupil's needs and ability.
• Break down concepts patiently, building numeracy and supporting GCSE Maths preparation where appropriate.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have had difficult experiences of education.
• Track progress and share updates with the school team.
• Follow the school's behaviour, safeguarding and wellbeing policies.

About the role

Luma Education Recruitment is looking for a SEND Maths Tutor (or Maths Teacher with SEND experience) to join a well-established secondary alternative provision in Solihull. This is a full-time, onsite, one-to-one tutoring role with pupils aged 11-16 (KS3 and KS4) who learn best outside mainstream school. Many of them have SEND or other additional needs.

Many of these pupils have lost confidence in maths. You'll help them rebuild it step by step, from core numeracy through to GCSE Maths where that's right for them.

About the school

The school is a small, full-time secondary alternative provision. It was founded four years ago by former teachers and has a nurturing, relationship-focused approach. Staff know every pupil well, and the right person will be supported to settle in and make a real difference.
