Quantum Scholars are seeking a patient, experienced SEND Maths Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to a young learner in Yeovil. The role focuses on strong Maths knowledge with experience supporting learners who have SEND/SEMH needs, adapting teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs in a calm, supportive environment.

This is an in-person position in Yeovil. You will monitor progress, identify gaps, and support GCSE revision where appropriate, while maintaining

Qualifications

  • Strong Maths knowledge at secondary level.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring Maths.
  • Enhanced DBS check and safeguarding awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised one-to-one Maths tuition to a secondary learner.
  • Identify gaps in mathematical knowledge and provide targeted support.
  • Support GCSE revision, exam technique and progress monitoring as appropriate.
  • Adapt teaching approaches and pace to meet individual learning needs.
  • Create a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's education.

SEND Maths Tutor - Yeovil

Location: Yeovil, Somerset

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced SEND Maths Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to a young person in Yeovil.

The successful tutor will have strong Maths subject knowledge and experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual learning needs, while creating a calm and positive environment where the learner can build confidence and engage with Maths.

Experience supporting young people who have experienced barriers to mainstream education, anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role may involve:
  • Providing personalised one-to-one Maths tuition to a secondary-aged learner.
  • Supporting the learner across the Secondary Maths curriculum, including GCSE where appropriate.
  • Identifying gaps in mathematical knowledge and providing targeted support.
  • Supporting areas including number, algebra, geometry, statistics, ratio, proportion and problem solving.
  • Breaking down complex mathematical concepts into manageable and accessible steps.
  • Adapting teaching methods, resources and lesson pace to suit individual learning needs.
  • Supporting a learner who may lack confidence or have experienced difficulties with Maths.
  • Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
  • Supporting learners who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education.
  • Helping the learner develop confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Supporting GCSE revision, exam preparation and exam technique where appropriate.
  • Encouraging engagement and positive attitudes towards Maths and learning.
  • Using the learner's interests and strengths to make lessons engaging and accessible.
  • Supporting learners who may experience SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
  • Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
  • Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.
  • Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's education.
  • Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.
Essential requirements:
  • Strong Maths subject knowledge at secondary level.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring Maths.
  • Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
  • Experience providing one-to-one or personalised educational support is desirable.
  • Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
  • Experience supporting learners who may have barriers to mainstream education is desirable.
  • Experience supporting challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.
  • A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
  • Confidence supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Reliable and consistent approach to work.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
  • The right to work in the UK.
