Qualifications

SEND Learning Support Assistant - SEMH, trauma
Hours: Full time -term time only (part-time possible)
Location: Bridgwater,Somerset
Pay: £102.81 per day during trial (£20,048pa perm equivalent)
Type: Temp-to-perm
Start: ASAP

Elementa is working with a special school providing specialist education for learners with an EHCP relating to SEMH, Trauma, ADHD, ASC and often other additional needs. Unsurprisingly students often display challenging behaviour. The organisation focus on a holistic and creative education approach either to reintegrate the students into mainstream schooling, or achieve their full potential whilst out of mainstream education at the school. The school have been highly successful at student reintegration (into mainstream schooling) and they have achieved this by using a range of education approaches which include outdoor learning, Forest School, classroom-based learning, excursions and practical learning sessions.In the last few years the school improved from 'Requires Improvement' to 'Good' in their Ofsted inspections and continue to work at this level.

The role of the SEND Learning Support Assistant in this setting is both academic & pastoral.Clear parameters are set for individuals development as their approach is equally focused on preparing young people for life out of education.The ideal person for this role will have a positive outlook, a resilient & unflappable nature, have a sound understanding of safeguarding, display good working practices when working with vulnerable learners, be able to set clear boundaries, and uphold the school’s expectations & policies.

Previous experience of positive behaviour management strategies or Team Teach training would be an advantage in being considered for this job opportunity. For a successful applicant, free Team Teach training would be offered.

Essential applicant criteria:

  • driving licence & car owner
  • (compensated) willing to travel between school sites in Somerset
  • (compensated) willing to transport students if required in their own car; appropriate car insurance required
  • clear DBS (civil offences may be permissible)

This includes full vetting & background checks and application for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure (which may be chargeable at £53.20) unless you have a current DBS on the update service.
