Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting enthusiastic LSAs, Teaching Assistants and SEND Support Workers for a specialist SEND school in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Roles include 1:1 and small-group support for ages 3–19 with diverse needs. Full-time and part-time opportunities available with potential for long-term placements.

Applicants with SEND experience, patience, and strong teamwork are encouraged. DBS on Update Service is advantageous. Daily rate and hours are listed below.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, autism, SLD or PMLD.
• Experience in a SEND or mainstream school, care setting or similar support role.
• A patient, caring and compassionate approach.
• Confidence supporting pupils with complex learning and communication needs.
• Willingness to assist with personal care where required.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
• Desirable: Enhanced DBS on Update Service.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEND needs.
• Support children with SLD, PMLD, autism and additional learning difficulties.
• Assist with communication using visual aids, Makaton, PECS and alternative methods.
• Assist with personal care including toileting, changing and feeding where needed.
• Help pupils develop independence and life skills.
• Support sensory-based activities and adapted classroom tasks.
• Help pupils with physical disabilities and mobility needs after training.
• Promote positive behaviour and a safe learning environment.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and other professionals.
