Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a 1:1 SEN Tutor to support children and young people across Shrewsbury and surrounding areas from November 2026. The role offers flexible hours between 8:00am and 4:00pm, with tuition delivered in schools, at home, or in community settings.

You will tailor 1:1 tuition in core subjects (Maths, English, Science), adapt to EHCP targets, monitor progress, and build positive relationships with families, schools and professionals.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
• Experience working with students with SEN and/or additional needs.
• Strong knowledge of the UK curriculum.
• Experience teaching core subjects including Maths and English.
• Excellent communication and behaviour management skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching strategies to learner needs and EHCP targets.
• Willingness to obtain Enhanced DBS via Update Service.

Responsibilities

• Deliver tailored 1:1 tuition sessions to students with SEN and additional needs.

1:1 SEN Tutor - Shrewsbury & Surrounding Areas October 2026 Start | Qualified Teacher (QTS) Essential | Flexible Hours Between 8am-4pm Are you a passionate and experienced teacher looking to make a genuine difference to young people with Special Educational Needs? Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking dedicated 1:1 SEN Tutors to support children and young people across Shrewsbury and the surrounding areas from November 2026. This role involves working with students aged 3-18 who may be out of mainstream education or require additional support due to a range of needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties, and complex needs. Tuition may take place within schools, at home, or in community settings depending on the individual needs of each learner. This is a rewarding opportunity for teachers who are passionate about delivering personalised education and helping vulnerable students build confidence, re-engage with learning, and achieve positive outcomes.

The Role

• Deliver tailored 1:1 tuition sessions to students with SEN and additional needs
• Plan and deliver engaging lessons in core subjects including Maths, English, and Science
• Adapt lessons to suit individual learning styles, academic ability, and EHCP targets
• Build positive and trusting relationships with students, families, schools, and professionals
• Monitor, assess, and record student progress, providing regular feedback where required
• Create a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment
• Work independently while receiving ongoing support from the Tradewind Tuition Team
• Flexible working hours available within school hours (8:00am-4:00pm, Monday to Friday)

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Experience supporting students with SEN and/or additional needs
• Strong knowledge of the UK curriculum
• Experience teaching or tutoring core subjects including Maths and English
• Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
• Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual learner needs
• Compassionate, patient, and child-centred approach
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience delivering GCSE or Functional Skills tuition
• Experience working within SEN schools, Alternative Provisions, PRUs, or delivering 1:1 tuition
• Knowledge of differentiated teaching approaches and trauma-informed practice
