SENCO

The SENCO will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SEN department. The post holder will be responsible for the students learning, and accountable for their academic progress. They should be able to teach either literacy or numeracy to KS3 level and ensure the William Perkin core curriculum is delivered to each student, either within the centre or by inclusion in the mainstream school.

Salary: WSLT L6-L10 (£65,732-£71,614)

SENCO
The main purpose of this role is to ensure that the needs of all SEN students are met – either within the mainstream curriculum or through additional provision. The SENCO will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SEN department. The post holder will be responsible for the students learning, and accountable for their academic progress. They should be able to teach either literacy or numeracy to KS3 level and ensure the William Perkin core curriculum is delivered to each student, either within the centre or by inclusion in the mainstream school.
The SENCO will be responsible for ensuring that the specific requirements of each student’s statement of SEN or Education, Health & Care plan are met along with EHCP students who are outside the ARC. This will include keeping a record of interventions and support provided; quarterly reviews of progress; termly meetings with parents, as well as keeping IEPs and holding Annual Review meetings.
The SENCO will create a balanced timetable for all EHCP students, probably individual to each child, and deploy the Teaching Assistants effectively, writing their timetables and ensuring their time is used effectively and efficiently. The timetable will include teaching the core curriculum of English, Mathematics, Science, RE, a humanity and MFL. All schemes of work and individual lesson plans are held on the school’s VLE (Copia).
A vital subject, included in all timetables, will be social communication and social skills. The SENCO should be able to teach these skills. The aim is to ensure that all students leave the ARC able to function as independent adults; be able to access the William Perkin 6th form; undertake further education or training.
