Children with SEMH needs may experience difficulties with emotional regulation, anxiety, confidence, relationships, behaviour or engagement with education. For some pupils, previous experiences of school may have been challenging, and they need adults around them who are patient, consistent, understanding and able to build trust.
Working in an SEMH setting isn't always easy – but it can be incredibly rewarding.
Sometimes the biggest achievements aren't just academic. It might be helping a pupil stay in a lesson, manage their emotions, rebuild their confidence, develop positive relationships or simply begin to enjoy coming to school again.
Those small wins can make a huge difference.
