Job summary

Teach Now is recruiting a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant for a long-term SEMH-support position based in Brent, North-West London. The role is full-time with a temporary contract and a daily pay rate of £90–£100.

You will support pupils with SEMH needs across EYFS to KS2, helping them engage, regulate emotions and participate in learning. Successful candidates will have SEMH experience, a safeguarding mindset and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and specialists to implement

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience with children or young people with SEMH needs
  • Understanding of why behaviour may communicate unmet needs
  • Strong emotional regulation and professional judgement
  • Ability to build rapport without compromising boundaries
  • Confidence working collaboratively with teachers and specialists
  • Reliable, reflective and non-judgemental approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding and confidentiality
  • The right to work in the UK
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
  • All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role
  • For teacher roles, a formally recognised teaching qualification

Responsibilities

  • Establishing positive and professional relationships with identified pupils
  • Providing individual and small-group academic support
  • Helping pupils use emotional-regulation and communication strategies
  • Supporting arrival, transitions, unstructured times and reintegration
  • Using praise, choices and clear consequences consistently
  • Implementing support plans agreed by teachers and the SENCO
  • Responding to dysregulation without confrontation
  • Recording progress and incidents accurately
  • Sharing relevant observations with the wider support team
  • Encouraging social skills, confidence and independence
  • Supporting a safe and inclusive environment for all pupils

SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH Location: Brent, North-West London Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary Start date: 8 September 2026 Pay: £90–£100 per day Key stages: EYFS, KS1 and KS2 Teach Now is recruiting a compassionate but boundaried SEN Teaching Assistant for a long-term SEMH-support position in Brent. You will work with pupils whose emotional needs can affect attendance, relationships, behaviour and engagement with learning. Success in this role will come from being predictable, observant and patient. You will help pupils understand expectations, recover from difficult moments and experience achievement within the classroom. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop a career in SEN, pastoral support, educational psychology or therapeutic education.
