Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. Start ASAP in both full-time and part-time temporary and long-term placements.

You will provide 1:1 support, work with small groups, and help pupils access lessons, develop communication and social skills, and foster an inclusive classroom environment. Experience with SEN is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

Do you have experience supporting children with SEN, or a strong background working with children and young people?

We are looking for caring, enthusiastic and resilient SEN Teaching Assistants to join a number of mainstream primary schools across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch, with opportunities available to start immediately.

What will you be doing?

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll play an important role in helping pupils feel confident, included and supported throughout their school day.

Depending on the individual pupil and school, your role could involve:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to pupils with additional needs
  • Working with small groups to support learning and development
  • Helping pupils engage with lessons and classroom activities
  • Supporting children with communication, social and emotional needs
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils manage challenges
  • Building trusting and supportive relationships with pupils
  • Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and other school staff
  • Creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment
Who are we looking for?

We want people who genuinely care about helping children succeed.

You could be an experienced Teaching Assistant, an SEN professional, or someone with transferable experience from childcare, care work, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching or similar environments.

You'll ideally be:

  • Patient, calm and compassionate
  • Confident working with children and young people
  • Positive and encouraging
  • Adaptable and able to think on your feet
  • Reliable and committed
  • Comfortable providing 1:1 support
  • Passionate about inclusive education

Previous SEN experience is beneficial, but it's not essential. What's most important is your attitude, commitment and ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
