Contract: Day-to-Day/Long-Term, Full-time/Part-time

Do you have a background in sports coaching and a passion for supporting children with special educational needs?

GSL Education are currently seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant with experience as a Sports Coach to support pupils in a specialist provision in Tonbridge. This role is ideal for individuals who understand the importance of physical activity in developing confidence, resilience, and emotional regulation in children with additional needs.

About the role:

As an SEN TA with a sports coaching background, you’ll work closely with young learners with a range of needs, including autism, SEMH, and communication difficulties. Your role will involve providing structured support both inside and outside of the classroom, incorporating physical movement and sports-based activities into their daily learning and wellbeing routines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support individual and small groups of pupils using sport-based strategies to improve engagement and behaviour.
• Assist the teacher in delivering active and inclusive lesson plans.
• Use physical activity to help students develop self-confidence, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Help manage behaviour positively, using de-escalation techniques when necessary.
• Encourage healthy routines and support emotional regulation through structured exercise.
• Record and track progress against learning and behavioural goals.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working withSENstudents or relevant training in special education is preferred.
• A background in sports coaching or physical education.
• Knowledge of various SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD and Speech and Language difficulties.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
• A genuine passion for working with children with special educational needs.
• Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
