Job summary

Aspire People are recruiting on behalf of a specialist all-age SEN school in Solihull for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant.

You will work closely with teachers to support students with moderate learning difficulties, including pupils with autism, providing one-to-one and small-group support, and helping pupils develop communication, social and practical life skills.

A caring, patient and adaptable approach, strong communication, and the ability to work as part of a school team are essential.

Qualifications

  • Caring, patient and enthusiastic approach to supporting children with additional needs.
  • Previous SEN/SEND or similar educational setting experience is desirable.
  • Ability to stay calm and adaptable when faced with challenging situations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a school team.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with moderate learning difficulties and additional needs.
  • Working with students who may have autism and communication or sensory needs.
  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support where required.
  • Assisting teachers with classroom activities and learning programmes.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and supporting students to develop their confidence and independence.
  • Helping pupils develop communication, social and practical life skills.
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Supporting pupils during break times, transitions and wider school activities.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, parents, carers and other professionals.
  • Following individual support plans and contributing to students' development and progress.
