Job summary

Hays Education partners with welcoming primary schools across Acocks Green (B27) in Birmingham to recruit SEN Teaching Assistants and 1:1 Support Assistants for September 2026.

These schools seek dependable individuals who can provide consistent, individual support and help pupils enjoy positive experiences in the classroom. Roles include one-to-one support, or work with small groups within the wider class, tailored to each child’s needs.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with additional needs in school, care, nursery or community settings.
• Patience, empathy and a calm approach are essential.
• Ability to follow individual support plans and guidance from school staff.
• Desirable to have extra experience with personal care, behaviour support, Makaton, PECS, Team Teach or similar.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with pupils who have additional needs.
• Adapt activities for children with ASD, ADHD or other learning needs.
• Use agreed strategies to encourage engagement and positive behaviour.
• Help pupils develop independence, communication and confidence.
• Share observations and progress with teachers and SENCOs.
