Job summary

Hays Education is recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants and 1:1 Support Assistants for September 2026 across primary schools in Edgbaston (B15). Roles include supporting individual pupils or small groups and helping pupils access learning within the classroom.

Successful candidates will bring patience, empathy and the ability to build positive relationships, with or without prior SEN experience. Multiple full-time and part-time placements available across the academic year.

Qualifications

• Have supported children or young people with additional needs in school, care, nursery or community setting.
• Bring patience, empathy and a calm approach to their work.
• Can build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
• Are comfortable following individual support plans and guidance from school staff.
• Want to help every pupil feel included and able to succeed.
• Hold a relevant qualification, although desirable rather than essential.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with pupils with additional needs.
• Adapt activities for ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs.
• Use agreed strategies to encourage engagement and behaviour.
• Help pupils develop independence, communication and confidence.
• Share observations and progress with teachers and SENCOs.
• Contribute to a calm, safe and inclusive classroom.
