Job summary

Protocol Education is seeking a calm, compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEMH and other needs at a Bedale area setting. You’ll work 1:1 or in small groups, helping students build emotional regulation and confidence.

A quick DBS update and SEN qualification are preferred; the role offers weekly PAYE, access to CPD Academy, and a supportive consultant to keep things simple.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs.
• Confidence supporting students with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, PMLD and challenging behaviours.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach to managing behaviours and building relationships.
• Understanding of trauma-informed or restorative approaches is desirable.
• SEN qualification or a care-based qualification.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential).
• References ready for clearance.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, Autism, PMLD and other needs.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students who may have experienced challenges in education.
• Work 1:1 or with small groups to provide tailored support.
• Help students develop emotional regulation, social skills and confidence.
• Support behaviour in a positive, restorative way.
• Create a calm, structured environment where students feel safe and ready to learn.
• Encourage engagement, attendance and participation in lessons.
