Job summary

St Joseph’s Specialist Trust is seeking compassionate Teaching Assistants to support learners aged 5-19 with complex needs. You’ll contribute to therapy-based education, help develop life skills and promote independence in a dedicated team on a 36-hour week.

No prior experience required; full training is provided, including Team Teach and a funded TA apprenticeship. Opportunities for progression to Senior HLTA are available with salary growth and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Empathy, compassion and resilience for supporting students with LD.
• Literacy and numeracy skills to support learning and admin tasks.
• Strong communication with children, families and professionals.
• Patience and calm under pressure when supporting challenging behaviours.
• Willingness to undertake training and development.

Responsibilities

• Work with small classes (8-13) grouped by ability and needs.
• Support core subjects and daily living skills.
• Assist communication using Makaton, signs, symbols or aids.
• Guide students to manage anxiety and behaviour with team support.
• Participate in training and mentoring; some roles include personal care.
