Job summary

Remedy Tutors are seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a 2:1 support package for an 11-year-old student in Kingston upon Thames.

The role focuses on ASD and Global Developmental Delay, supporting learning with calm, personalised strategies and clear communication. You will work closely with the SEN Tutor to provide consistent support, helping the student engage and feel safe and regulated throughout sessions.

Qualifications

• Experienced working with children with complex SEN needs.
• Confident supporting children with ASD and/or GDD.
• Understanding of communication and sensory processing difficulties.
• Calm, patient, nurturing and resilient.
• Confident responding to emotional dysregulation and challenging behaviour.
• Able to work in a 2:1 team and take direction from the Tutor.
• Able to build trusting relationships with a child while maintaining boundaries.
• Flexible and able to adapt approach to student’s needs.
• Creative and enthusiastic about practical, sensory activities.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Tutor as part of a 2:1 team.
• Provide individualised support throughout learning sessions.
• Help the student maintain attention and engagement with activities.
• Support communication using clear language, visuals, gestures and demonstrations.
• Use visual supports such as Now & Next boards, visual timetables and timers.
• Support transitions and prepare the student for changes.
• Provide appropriate sensory and movement breaks when needed.
• Help regulate emotionally and remain calm and engaged.
• Recognise behaviour as communication and respond appropriately to signs of dysregulation.
• Support social interaction, communication and play.
• Encourage independence and participation in everyday activities.
• Create a predictable, low-arousal environment.
• Follow strategies provided by Tutor and professionals.
• Maintain consistency and clear communication with the Tutor.
