Remedy Education in Kingston upon Thames is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a 2:1 support package for an 11-year-old student in Kingston upon Thames. Qualifications

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Experience with AAC, Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction or similar approaches would be desirable.
  • Able to build trusting relationships with children while maintaining boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely alongside the Tutor as part of a 2:1 support team.
  • Provide individualised support throughout learning sessions.
  • Help the student maintain attention and engagement with activities.
  • Support communication using clear language, visuals, gestures and demonstrations.
  • Use visual supports such as Now & Next boards, visual timetables and timers.
  • Support transitions between activities and prepare the student for changes.
  • Provide appropriate sensory and movement breaks when needed.
  • Help the student regulate emotionally and remain calm and engaged.
  • Recognise behaviour as a form of communication and respond appropriately to signs of dysregulation.
  • Support social interaction, communication and play.
  • Encourage independence and participation in everyday activities.
  • Help create a predictable, low-arousal and supportive environment.
  • Follow strategies and guidance provided by the Tutor and relevant professionals.
  • Maintain consistency and clear communication with the Tutor throughout each session.

SEN Teaching Assistant - 2:1 Support

Location: Kingston upon Thames

Hours: 3 hours per day, Monday to Friday

Total: 15 hours per week

Start: Subject to confirmation

Remedy Tutors are looking for an experienced and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a 2:1 support package for an 11-year-old student in Kingston upon Thames.

The student has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Global Developmental Delay (GDD), with complex needs around communication, social interaction, attention and listening, sensory processing, emotional regulation, play and independence.

The successful TA will work alongside the SEN Tutor to provide consistent, calm and personalised support, helping the student to engage with learning and feel safe and regulated throughout the session.

The Role
  • Work closely alongside the Tutor as part of a 2:1 support team.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced working with children with complex SEN needs.
  • Confident supporting children with ASD and/or Global Developmental Delay.
  • Understanding of communication and sensory processing difficulties.
  • Calm, patient, nurturing and resilient.
  • Confident responding to emotional dysregulation and challenging behaviour.
  • Comfortable working as part of a 2:1 team and taking direction from the Tutor.
  • Able to build a trusting relationship with a child while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Flexible and able to adapt their approach depending on the student's needs on the day.
  • Creative and enthusiastic about using practical, sensory and engaging activities.
  • Experience with AAC, Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction, visual communication strategies or similar approaches would be desirable.

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, will be required.
