Job summary

GSL Education in Poole is seeking an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support pupils with severe and complex needs. You will assist learners with communication, mobility, and behaviour support, working closely with teachers and specialists to implement tailored targets.

The role involves creating a calm and inclusive classroom, promoting independence and wellbeing, and adhering to safeguarding guidelines. Relevant references and DBS checks are required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or young people with autism or SEN is desirable.
• Calm, patient and empathetic approach to supporting pupils with additional needs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Positive, flexible and proactive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs.
• Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
• Assist in implementing EHCP targets, behaviour plans, and individual support strategies.
• Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals.
• Promote pupils’ independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
• Follow care plans, safeguarding procedures, and school policies at all times.
