Job summary

Randstad UK is seeking an experienced teaching assistant to join a specialist school in Croydon on a supply basis. The role focuses on 1:1 and small group interventions to help students overcome emotional obstacles and re-engage with education.

Responsibilities include supporting teachers with classroom management, lesson preparation, and learning activities while maintaining a calm, inclusive environment. Strong communication and resilience are essential.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above or equivalent.
• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
• Experience working with children or young people, preferably SEMH/SEND or alternative provision.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced teaching assistant with special educational experience to join our specialist school in Croydon on a supply basis.

Salary: £88-£93 per day // Working Hours: 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday

In this role, you will partner with teachers to provide structured 1:1 and small group intervention, assisting students in overcoming emotional obstacles, re-engaging with their education, and establishing strong relationships within a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide targeted academic and behavioural support to individual pupils or small groups.

Assist class teachers with classroom management, lesson preparation, and learning activities.

Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

Support pupils with emotional self-control and conflict resolution using positive behaviour strategies.

Monitor student progress and report achievements or challenges to teaching staff.

Escort and support pupils during lunch breaks, physical activities, and school trips where required.

Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications:

GCSEs in English and Mathematics (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent standard). Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.

Prior experience working with children or young people, preferably within an SEMH, SEND, or alternative provision environment.

Strong communication skills, patience, emotional resilience, and a proactive approach.

High levels of empathy, professionalism, and the ability to build trust with challenging or vulnerable pupils.
