Job summary

Long Term Futures is recruiting a patient SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Reception pupil with Autism and SLCN at a Harrow primary school. You will help the child communicate, participate in Early Years activities, and build independence through play and structured support.

Role requires 1:1 support, collaboration with the Reception teacher and SENCo, and familiarity with visual communication tools. DBS checks and safeguarding are integral to the process.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with Autism.
• Experience in EYFS/Reception is strongly preferred.
• Understanding of speech and language support strategies.
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or visual communication advantageous.
• Patient, nurturing and confident in building relationships.
• Able to encourage independence and celebrate small progress.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Reception pupil.
• Support ASD and speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).
• Reinforce speech and language strategies throughout the school day.
• Use visual resources, modelling and communication aids where appropriate.
• Encourage interaction, vocabulary and early communication.
• Support learning through play and EYFS classroom activities.
• Help with routines, transitions and emotional regulation.
• Work closely with the Reception teacher and SENCo.
