Job summary

Teach Now in Barnet, London, is seeking a Reception Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 SEN support for a pupil with ASD/ADHD, within an EYFS setting. The role focuses on communication, sensory regulation and engagement using visual aids.

The successful candidate will have EYFS experience, a calm, engaging approach, and an enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one). The post is full-time, immediate start, long-term temporary, in Barnet.

Qualifications

• Experience in Reception or EYFS settings.
• Experience supporting ASD, ADHD or sensory needs.
• Understanding of behaviour as communication.
• Confident using visual supports and regulation strategies.
• Calm, playful and engaging approach.
• Ability to maintain clear, consistent boundaries.
• Energy and alertness to support a highly active pupil.
• Enhanced DBS via Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day
• Recognise triggers and early signs of dysregulation
• Use visuals, two-option choices and Now/Next strategies
• Support speech and communication difficulties
• Redirect sensory-seeking behaviour safely and positively
• Closely supervise behaviours such as mouthing non-food items
• Support transitions, boundaries and less-preferred activities
• Respond calmly to throwing or attempts to leave activities
• Use interests to build engagement and participation
• Encourage successful participation in classroom learning and play
