Job summary

A leading educational support provider seeks a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant for a secondary school in York, starting September 2025. The role focuses on delivering 1:1 support for students with various special educational needs and requires a genuine passion for helping young people thrive. Successful candidates will help manage classroom behaviour and assist teachers in delivering effective lessons, along with the implementation of emotional and academic support strategies.

Qualifications

• Experience working with students with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, MLD or SLD.
• Hold an enhanced Child Workforce DBS or be willing to obtain one.

GSL Education are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school that supports students with a wide range of Special Educational Needs located in York, North Yorkshire, starting in September 2025.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

• Deliver personalised 1:1 and small group support to students with special educational needs.
• Help manage classroom behaviour in a positive and supportive manner.
• Support teaching staff in delivering lessons effectively.
• Implement strategies to support the student's emotional, social, and academic development.
• Assist with emotional regulation strategies and de-escalate challenging behaviour.

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

• Must have the legal right to work in the UK.
• A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEN.
• Experience working with students with SEN, particularly those with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, MLD or SLD.
• Hold an enhanced Child Workforce DBS, registered on the update service, or be willing to obtain one through GSL Education.
• Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE, Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) are desirable but not essential.
