SEN Teaching Assistant - SEN Primary/Secondary School (SL4)

Location: Windsor, SL4

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant (Primary & Secondary)

Contract Type: Long Term - Full Time Contract

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young children with special educational needs? Our SEN school is looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team.

Role Overview:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting young children with diverse needs, ensuring their safety, emotional well-being, and educational development. You will assist in delivering the curriculum both inside and outside the classroom under the guidance of the Head of Learning or a designated teacher.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting Students:

  1. Engage with individual children or small groups to support their physical, emotional, educational, and social development.
  2. Encourage independent learning through structured educational activities and programs.
  3. Build nurturing relationships with students, promoting self-esteem, independence, and resilience.
  4. Foster an inclusive environment for all students, regardless of their special needs.

Classroom Support:

  1. Assist teachers in planning and delivering work programs tailored for young children.
  2. Maintain an organized and supportive classroom environment.
  3. Help ensure smooth transitions between different educational activities.
  4. Monitor and report on student progress and achievements.

Additional Duties:

  1. Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions.
  2. Supervise students during non-class times, including before and after school and during lunchtimes.
  3. Assist on school trips and external activities.
  4. Uphold the school's commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  1. NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
  2. At least one year of experience as a Teaching Assistant or Classroom Assistant.
  3. Knowledge of educational practices related to child welfare and education.
  4. Ability to build strong relationships with children and adults and work effectively within a team.

Desirable:

  1. Additional qualifications in Education.
  2. Experience with SEMH, ASD, and other special educational needs.
  3. Proficiency in ICT and a First Aid qualification.

Requirements:

  1. Adherence to the school's safeguarding policies and procedures.
  2. Completion of an Enhanced Disclosure check upon appointment.
  3. Flexibility to attend meetings outside normal school hours as needed.
  4. Physical fitness suitable for engaging in Restrictive Physical Interventions if required.
