Job description

Educate U is an independent special school dedicated to creating an exceptional learning journey for children and young people aged 5-16 with diverse needs. Our students bring their own strengths and challenges, such as ASC, ADHD, or barriers like high anxiety or trauma. Each student has an EHCP, and our mission is to provide a personalised, nurturing environment that supports their growth.

Role Overview

As a SEN Teaching Assistant at Educate U, you will be a vital part of our team, supporting teachers and SEN tutors to deliver an engaging curriculum. You will help create a safe, positive environment for learning and development.

Working Hours

Enjoy a balanced work schedule with 35.5 hours per week, term time only:

  • Monday: 8:45 AM to 4:15 PM
  • Tuesday to Friday: 8:45 AM to 3:45 PM

This schedule allows for meaningful impact during the school year while maintaining personal time.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the class teacher in creating a positive learning environment
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students
  • Ensure student safety and well-being, following safeguarding protocols
  • Assist with lesson delivery, classroom management, and preparing learning materials
  • Support activities such as cooking and arts and crafts through ASDAN
  • Help develop students' academic, social, emotional, and life skills
  • Use technology and specialised equipment to facilitate lessons
  • Act as a nurturing and encouraging presence during lessons
  • Monitor classroom behaviour and minimise disruptions
  • Model therapeutic language (PACE) in the classroom
  • Manage ASDAN and tracking folders
  • Escort students to therapy sessions and transportation
Experience and Skills

Essential:

  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar role
  • Experience working with children with SEN
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures
  • Experience with lone working in schools or community settings

Preferred:

  • Current or willing to obtain a teaching assistant qualification
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with learning management systems such as BROMCOM, EARWIG
Professional Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to promote the school's vision and aims
  • Strong sense of responsibility and organisation
  • Creativity in supporting pupil development
  • Ability to carry out teacher-directed tasks and lead small groups
  • Experience working with pupils exhibiting challenging behaviours
  • Ability to liaise effectively with parents and professionals
  • Good communication skills and flexibility
  • Willingness to participate in training, especially in SEN and ICT
Training Opportunities

All staff receive training in health and safety, attachment, trauma and loss, fire procedures, and Zones of Regulation. After probation, there is an opportunity to study for an Accredited Teaching Assistant qualification.
