Job summary

TipTopJob is seeking enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils across primary and secondary ages near Wilburton and East Cambridgeshire. Roles range from day-to-day cover to long-term placements, offering flexibility to fit your lifestyle and career goals.

You will work with pupils with ASC, SLD/MLD, SEMH, and disabilities, aiding personalised targets and learning programs. Training and progression opportunities are provided by the specialist SEN network we partner with.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs.
• Patient, resilient and compassionate nature.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport with pupils.
• Knowledge or training in SEN interventions, de-escalation, PECS, Makaton, or moving and handling desirable.
• Enhanced DBS on Update Service (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with diverse needs (ASC, SLD/MLD, SEMH, physical disabilities).
• Assist class teacher with EHCP targets and adapted learning materials.
• Support emotional regulation, sensory needs, and positive behaviour management.
• Encourage independence, confidence and social interaction during lessons and breaks.
• Assists with alternative communication tools (PECS/Makaton) and visual timetables as required.
• Collaborate with teachers and therapists to monitor and report student progress and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide tailored 1:1 and small:group support to pupils with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe or Moderate Learning Difficulties (SLD/MLD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, or physical disabilities.
• Assist the class teacher in implementing personalised Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets and adapting learning materials.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and positive behaviour management using calm, consistent strategies.
• Encourage independence, confidence, and positive social interaction during both structured lessons and break times.
• Assist with alternative communication tools (such as PECS or Makaton) and visual timetables where required.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, SENCOs, and visiting therapists to monitor and report on student progress and well:being.

What We Look For

• Previous experience supporting children or young adults with special educational needs (in schools, care, support work, youth work, or personal environments).
• A patient, resilient, and compassionate nature with a genuine passion for inclusive education.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build quick, trusting rapport with pupils.
• Knowledge or training in SEN interventions, de:escalation methods, PECS, Makaton, or moving and handling is highly desirable (though not essential).
• A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).
