Job summary

Randstad Education is recruiting for SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils across primary and secondary levels near Wilburton, East Cambridgeshire. You will provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support for learners with ASC, SLD/MLD, SEMH, and physical disabilities, helping them access learning in inclusive environments.

This role offers day-to-day cover or longer placements with flexible scheduling and access to specialist SEN training.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children or young adults with SEN in schools, care, or youth settings.
• Patient, resilient, and compassionate with a passion for inclusive education.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build quick rapport with pupils.
• Knowledge or training in SEN interventions, de-escalation, PECS, or Makaton desirable.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe or Moderate Learning Difficulties (SLD/MLD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, or physical disabilities.

Assist the class teacher in implementing personalised Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets and adapting learning materials.

Support pupils with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and positive behaviour management using calm, consistent strategies.

Encourage independence, confidence, and positive social interaction during both structured lessons and break times.

Assist with alternative communication tools (such as PECS or Makaton) and visual timetables where required.

Collaborate closely with teachers, SENCOs, and visiting therapists to monitor and report on student progress and well-being.

What We Look For:

Previous experience supporting children or young adults with special educational needs (in schools, care, support work, youth work, or personal environments).

A patient, resilient, and compassionate nature with a genuine passion for inclusive education.

Strong communication skills and the ability to build quick, trusting rapport with pupils.

Knowledge or training in SEN interventions, de-escalation methods, PECS, Makaton, or moving and handling is highly desirable (though not essential).

A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).
