Job summary

GSL Education in Sutton is seeking a warm, reliable SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with ASD in a primary setting. You will provide tailored 1-to-1 support, help with lessons, routines and social interactions, and work closely with the class teacher to promote engagement and independence.

The role requires patience, empathy and a proactive approach to safeguarding. A Clear Enhanced DBS check and GCSEs in Maths and English are expected; SEN training is desirable but not essential.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children with SEN is desirable but not required.
• GCSE English and Maths at A*-C or equivalent.
• Enhanced DBS check is required.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.
• Understanding of autism, ADHD, SLN, SEMH.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1-to-1 support for ASD pupils.
• Adapt learning materials and visuals to individual needs.
• Support with routines, transitions and personal care as needed.
• Help manage anxiety and emotional needs of pupils.

SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT

Do you have a passion for helping children with ASD overcome barriers to learning? Are you confident in your ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to challenging situations? We're looking for a warm and reliable Special Education Needs Teaching Assistant to join a primary school based in Sutton. This is a lovely opportunity to work closely with a teacher in a classroom setting while providing tailored 1-to-1 support to a pupil with ASD. You will play an important role in helping the pupil engage, build confidence and develop their independence.

Teaching Assistant duties

• Provide 1-to-1 support for ASD pupils, help them understand lessons, complete tasks and manage routines
• Adapt learning materials by simplifying instructions, using visual aids and providing alternative resources catered to individual needs
• Help students manage anxiety, sensory needs and emotions
• Encourage students' communication and interaction with peers and participation in group learning
• Supervise and support with personal care, mealtimes or mobility
• Promote positive behaviour, engagement and pupil wellbeing
• Follow safeguarding, health and safety and school policies
• Work collaboratively with teachers and wider school staff

Role Requirements

• A patient, empathetic, and resilient nature
• Relevant experience of working with children with SEN is desirable but not necessary
• An understanding of a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH
• A Clear Enhanced DBS check
• GCSE A*-C or equivalent in Maths and English
• Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support (desirable but not essential)
• A strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection
