Job summary

Smile Education in Tamworth is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work closely with children with highly complex needs in primary settings. You will provide 1:1 support, encourage positive behaviour, and help children develop social, emotional and academic skills in a calm, inclusive classroom.

The role offers flexible, short-term or longer-term opportunities, with the chance to progress to permanent roles for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • Recent experience supporting children with additional needs on a 1:1 basis.
  • A relevant TA or childcare qualification (level 2 or 3) desirable.
  • Experience supporting children with complex needs.
  • Medical care experience advantageous but not essential.
  • Confident working independently whilst also being a team member.
  • Patient, caring and flexible approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Smile Education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child with highly complex additional needs.

  • Assisting pupils with varying abilities and learning needs, including those requiring additional support
  • Helping to prepare classroom resources and learning activities to enhance pupil engagement
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, and other school staff to ensure the best outcomes for pupils
  • Supporting pupils' social, emotional, and academic development, helping them to build confidence and reach their full potential
  • Assisting with playground duties, school activities, and other responsibilities as required by the school

Are you a dedicated and adaptable SEMH Teaching Assiant who is experienced working very closely with SEN children in the Tamwoth area looking for a flexible role within a supportive SEN school environment?

We are seeking an patient and reliable SEMH focused Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children's learning and development and mental wellbeing across welcoming and well-established primary schools.

As a Primary School Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child with highly complex additional needs.

  • Assisting pupils with varying abilities and learning needs, including those requiring additional support
  • Helping to prepare classroom resources and learning activities to enhance pupil engagement

The ideal candidate would have:
  • Recent experience supporting children with additional needs on a 1:1 basis.
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualification (Level 2 or Level 3 desirable).
  • Experience supporting children with complex needs.
  • Previous experience delivering medical care is advantageous but not essential.
  • Confidence working independently whilst also being an effective member of a wider classroom team.
  • A patient, caring and flexible approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Smile Education.
