Job summary

Academics is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant to support students with a range of needs in welcoming Newbury secondary schools. You will work with teachers and the SEN team to enable access to learning.

The role suits those with passion for helping young people; experience with SEN is desirable but not essential, with ongoing training and career progression opportunities provided.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable but not essential.
• A caring, patient and resilient approach.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Qualifications in education, childcare or SEN are advantageous but not required.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them succeed.

Responsibilities

• Support students with SEN in the classroom to help them access learning and achieve their individual goals.
• Assist with the delivery of personalised learning plans and behaviour support strategies.
• Work one-to-one and in small groups to build students' confidence, independence and engagement.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to monitor progress and adapt support where needed.
• Promote a positive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
• Provide personal care or mobility support where required.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with school staff and parents.

The Role
