Job summary

Teacher Active in Newark is expanding its pool of SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistants to support pupils across Newark and the surrounding areas. The role involves 1:1 support, small groups, and classroom assistance for pupils with a range of needs including SEMH, ASD and ADHD.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs.
• Experience working in a school, SEN provision, alternative provision or similar setting.
• Confidence supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviours.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach.
• Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills.
• The ability to build positive and professional relationships with pupils.
• An understanding of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
• A flexible, reliable and adaptable approach to working across different settings.

The Role

As an SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant, you may be providing 1:1 support, working with small groups or supporting pupils within the classroom. You could be working with children and young people with a range of needs, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, communication difficulties and behaviours that require additional support.

Your role will involve building trusting relationships, supporting emotional regulation, encouraging positive engagement with education and helping pupils develop their confidence, independence and social skills.

The Ideal SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant Will Have:

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs.
• Experience working in a school, SEN provision, alternative provision or a similar setting.
