Job summary

Prospero Teaching in London area is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant to support 1:1 and small groups in a diverse two-form entry primary school in Merton, South West London.

The role starts September 2026, is full-time, 8:15am-3:30pm, term time only, with GBP100-GBP115 per day depending on experience. The ideal candidate will have SEN TA experience, safeguarding training, GCSEs in English and Maths, and a commitment to helping pupils access learning and progress.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4+.

SEN Teaching Assistant

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Prospero Teaching is looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant for a diverse two form-entry primary school in Merton, South West London. This outstanding primary school in Merton is dedicated to supporting pupils with additional needs. The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils access learning and make progress both academically and socially.

The position is open to experienced SEN Teaching Assistants, Teaching Assistants, and Learning Support Assistants.

CONTRACT/POSITION DETAILS

Location - Merton, South West London
Position - SEN Teaching Assistant
Type of work - Supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, assisting with learning, behaviour support, and classroom activities
Position start date - September 2026
Full time/part time - Full Time
Rate of pay - GBP100 - GBP115 per day (depending on experience)
Hours - 8:15am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday (term time only)

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant.
Experience supporting children with SEND, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language needs, or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs is desirable
Up-to-date Safeguarding training issued within the last year is desirable (training can be provided where required)
GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent
Relevant Teaching Assistant, SEN, Childcare, or Education qualification is desirable but not essential

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:

Hold Right to Work in the UK
Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
Provide two professional child-related references covering at least the last two years
