SEN Teaching Assistant

A SEN teaching assistant is needed for a special educational needs (SEN) school in North London for students aged 11-19.

As a SEN teaching assistant, you will be supporting students with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties (SLD & PMLD) and/or physical disabilities (PD).

You will work closely alongside the teacher or with small groups or individual students.

This school is easily accessible from around London, with great transport links.

As a SEN teaching assistant at this school, you will become part of a highly supportive team with exceptional senior leadership and fantastic resources.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  1. Working with and supporting students with SLD, ASD and other complex needs.
  2. Using alternative communication techniques, such as PECs and Makaton, to communicate with students who are non-verbal.
  3. A willingness to provide personal care, including toileting, changing and feeding, where required.
  4. Providing academic support, either one-on-one or in a small group.
  5. Promoting a positive and inclusive classroom culture and providing emotional support when needed.
  6. Implementing behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
  7. Using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage focus and self-control.
  8. Assisting with lesson planning and delivery.
  9. Being aware of safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  1. The right to work in the UK.
  2. A clear and up-to-date DBS.
  3. Experience working as a SEN teaching assistant.
  4. Willingness to do personal care.
  5. A patient and caring attitude with a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people.
