Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to support students in a Liverpool secondary setting with SEMH needs. You will provide 1:1 and small group support, help manage challenging behaviour, and work closely with teachers to deliver tailored interventions.

The role is full-time and permanent with long-term and temp-to-perm opportunities. A rewarding position in a specialist environment awaits candidates who are patient, resilient, and committed to helping vulnerable learners.

Qualifications

  • Experience in secondary school, PRU, or SEN setting.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and resilience.
  • Confident supporting students with challenging behaviour and SEMH needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils displaying challenging behaviours using de-escalation techniques.
  • Work with teachers and pastoral staff to deliver tailored interventions.
  • Help create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.

SEN Teaching Assistants – Secondary (SEMH & Challenging Behaviour)

We are currently recruiting experienced SEN Teaching Assistants to support students within a secondary school/specialist provision in Liverpool. This role is ideal for individuals who are confident working with challenging behaviour and have a strong understanding of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
  • Support pupils displaying challenging behaviours, using de-escalation techniques
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to deliver tailored interventions
  • Help create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
  • Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and emotional regulation strategies
About You

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Have previous experience working in a secondary school, PRU, or SEN setting
  • Be confident supporting students with challenging behaviour and SEMH conditions
  • Demonstrate strong behaviour management skills
  • Be resilient, patient, and able to remain calm under pressure
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
  • Be able to build strong, positive relationships with pupils and staff
Desirable (but not essential)
  • Team Teach or other de-escalation training
  • Experience within alternative provisions or PRUs
  • Background in youth work, care, or pastoral roles
