Job summary

A specialist SEN secondary school in Oldham is recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant on a full-time basis. You will support pupils with a range of additional needs, following behaviour plans and contributing to a calm learning environment across the school day.

The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, working closely with teaching and pastoral staff to help pupils engage, regulate emotions and participate in learning activities. Team Teach training is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with pupils with SEND.
  • Confidence supporting behaviour and emotional needs.
  • Ability to follow behaviour support frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with a wide range of SEN within a secondary setting.

SEN Teaching Assistant - Oldham

A specialist SEN secondary school in Oldham is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis. The school supports pupils with a wide range of additional needs and provides a structured, supportive environment where consistency, teamwork and positive relationships are central to daily practice. This role would suit a Teaching Assistant with proven SEN experience who is confident supporting pupils with complex needs across the secondary age range. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support pupils throughout the school day. Pupils present with a variety of needs, and support may include behaviour management, emotional regulation, communication support and assistance with learning activities. You will be expected to follow behaviour support plans, contribute to a calm learning environment and adapt your approach to meet individual pupil needs. Working across classes and year groups may be required.

Essential and Desirable Experience
  • Essential:
    • Previous experience working with pupils with SEND
    • Confidence supporting behaviour and emotional needs
    • Ability to work consistently within behaviour support frameworks
  • Desirable:
    • Team Teach training
    • MIDAS training
    • Experience within SEN secondary schools, PRUs or alternative provisions
