Job summary

Fresh Start In Education Ltd is seeking a proactive SEN Teaching Assistant in Ipswich to support children and young people with SEN and SEMH on a bank staff contract. Sessions are typically 3 to 5 hours during the school day.

You will deliver personalised learning, monitor progress, conduct risk assessments and uphold safeguarding procedures, with 1:1 or 2:1 support in homes or suitable public settings. Availability on at least two consistent weekdays is preferred.

Qualifications

  • At least one year experience supporting children and young people with SEN and SEMH.
  • Experience across Primary/Secondary or Post-16 settings; Makaton/PECS and behaviour support is an advantage.
  • Available for at least two consistent weekdays.
  • Up-to-date safeguarding and child protection understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 or 2:1 support to children and young people in homes or suitable public settings.
  • Delivering personalised, creative sessions reflecting each learner’s needs.
  • Monitoring and reporting on student progress after each session and setting clear targets.
  • Conducting risk assessments and ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed.
  • Working flexibly on a bank staff contract with sessions typically lasting 3 to 5 hours during the school day.

We're looking for proactive and person-centered education professionals to plan and deliver personalised learning sessions that spark curiosity, confidence and a sense of hope for our young people who are out of mainstream education. You'll have the opportunity and freedom to deliver learning in the way that you feel best meets the student’s needs. This role offers a genuine opportunity to make a lasting, positive difference.

What you’ll be doing
  • Providing 1:1 or 2:1 support to children and young people in their homes or a suitable public setting

Who we’re looking for
  • Education professionals with at least one year experience supporting children and young people with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Those from Primary, Secondary or Post-16 backgrounds, including specialist SEND settings (experience with Makaton, PECS and behaviour support is an advantage)
  • Individuals with a minimum of 2 consistent weekdays of availability
  • Professionals with up-to-date understanding of safeguarding and child protection
