Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant to join an SEN School in Ilkeston on a long-term basis starting in September. This role offers a temporary arrangement with potential for future opportunities.

You will support pupils with additional needs, both individually and in small groups, helping them access the curriculum and achieve EHCP targets within a nurturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in SEN/education.
  • Patient, empathetic and resilient approach with a passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with pupils, staff and families.
  • Ability to adapt to individual pupil needs and remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Good safeguarding and child protection understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils one-to-one and in small groups, addressing learning and emotional needs.
  • Assist access to the curriculum by adapting activities and providing extra support.
  • Work with the class teacher to deliver lessons and EHCP targets.
  • Help create a positive, inclusive learning environment that fosters confidence and independence.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, responding to their individual learning and emotional needs.
  • Helping pupils access the curriculum by adapting activities and providing additional support where required.
  • Working alongside the class teacher to deliver engaging lessons and implement EHCP targets and support strategies.
  • Promoting a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages confidence, independence and personal development.

Requirements or Skills:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN, education, care or support setting.
  • A patient, empathetic and resilient approach with a genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
  • The ability to adapt to the individual needs of pupils and remain calm in challenging situations.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities within an educational setting.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a wider school team.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
